Heather Pastro teaches Art Education at Vancouver Island University in the Faculty of Education and has taught art from gr. K - 12 and all subjects from Gr. K - 7 in Vancouver, Abbotsford, and Nanaimo school districts.

Heather holds a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of British Columbia with a double major in Art History and Visual Art Education and a Master of Arts degree in Curriculum Supervision and Administration from San Diego State University in California.

Heather is an active member of the executive of the British Columbia Art Teacher’s Association, a member of the Canadian Society for Education in Art, the National Art Education Association, and the International Society for Education in Art, and holds memberships in other educational leadership organizations.  She is a member of the VIU Senate and Chairs the Educational Standards Committee, and the Awards and Honours Committee.  Heather enjoys conducting research in the field of art education and presenting at conferences at the local, provincial, national, and international level. Heather is a member of the Board of Directors for the Nanaimo Art Gallery, and supports a number of arts groups and societies in the local community. When not teaching, Heather spends time working in her own art practice of design with a focus on painting and ceramics.
