Work-Op Positions

What is Work-Op?

The Vancouver Island University Student Work Opportunities program provides on-campus jobs for students. There are approximately 200 part-time on-campus jobs posted each year, averaging six to eight hours per week, where students can work up to 140 hours. Wage rates are between $10 and $15 per hour.

Who is eligible?

A student must be enrolled in nine (9) or more credits, (the eligibility threshold is six (6) or more credits for a student with a documented disability), at Vancouver Island University in order to be eligible for the Student Work-Opportunities Program.

Where are positions posted?

All Work-Op positions are posted on CareerVIU.

When are positions available

Work-Op positions are posted the last week of August, and students may start work after the first day of classes and after they have completed the necessary payroll documentation with the Campus Career Centre staff at a sign-up session.

How do I apply for jobs?

Work-Op positions will be posted to the Campus Career Centre’s job posting web site. Each posting will include a contact supervisor and location of the supervisor. Student(s) must make application for a position directly to the supervisor. The supervisor will select a student to hire at their convenience.
