Advising

Counselling Services offers free confidential and professional support to enrolled VIU students. Counsellors collaborate with students in a compassionate setting to clarify concerns, establish goals and explore resources for wellbeing. Counselling Services offer a variety of services which can assist in the management of personal challenges allowing students to have the best university experience possible.

Accessibility Services

Accessibility Services provides information, support services and reasonable accommodation in all programs to students with documented permanent and temporary disabilities ranging from mental health, ADHD, learning disabilities, chronic health issues, hearing and visual impairments, physical disabilities and temporary impairments due to accident, illness or injury.

Financial Aid & Awards

The Financial Aid & Awards Office is committed to supporting students in their search for financial assistance, both in the form of loans, grants and awards, and in helping students to make the best use of these resources. 

Scholarships & Awards

Scholarships and awards will be selected based on minimum course load requirements, grade point average requirements, specific donor criteria and information provided on your Scholarship, Award & Bursary Profile. To apply for VIU Scholarships & Awards, unless otherwise noted in the award criteria, students must complete their Scholarship, Award & Bursary Profile from their Student Record between early September and March 31 by NOON each year as information is not brought forward annually. 

Bursaries

VIU Bursaries have been established through donor and institutional means to provide tuition relief for students with the greatest financial need. Students who are not currently receiving government student loans must demonstrate financial need by providing documentation in their on-line bursary profile.

Writing Centre

On the fourth floor of the VIU Library (Nanaimo campus), you will find qualified and friendly faculty tutors ready to provide assistance with any aspect of your writing. Whether you want help with clear writing, thesis statements, citation and documentation, grammar, organizing an argument, or just want to talk about an assignment before you get started, or at any stage in the writing process, the Writing Centre is the place to go.
