Mary has been with the Education department since 1991 and has seen the program advance in its integration of technology in all curriculum areas.

Mary is  the Coordinator of VIU's Online Learning and Teaching graduate Diploma  program (OLTD.) This exciting program offers educators unique opportunities to engage in a cohort-based community of practice, while gaining insight and experience in creating  meaningful online learning opportunities for 21st Century learners.

Our first cohort engaged in September 2012 and Mary is privileged to facilitate OLTD 501- Introduction to Online Learning as well as OLTD 510- Capstone Learnings.

Mary also instructs MEdL 680- Field inquiry and liaises with OLTD students laddering into the Masters of Education (Leadership) program as they continue their graduate studies with the faculty.

She is also actively involved in the Faculty of Education's AlumniED opportunities and a great joy is assisting program grads in finding meaningful teaching placements-- locally and internationally.

Mary holds an Associate of Arts diploma in Applied Communications and a Masters of Arts in Distributed Learning from Royal Roads University, Victoria BC. Her thesis topic presented an investigation of appropriate mind technologies to support effective online learning within a community context. Other research interests include interface design for learning, image contextualization and e-Portfolio.

She enjoys travelling, the outdoors, mucking up innocent white canvasses that can present no defense (abstract painting) and especially hiking with her trusty mini Australian Shepherd, Louis Vuitton (aka Lewis.)
