Program Management: Initial Teacher Education New Students

Welcome!

Welcome to initial teacher education at the Faculty of Education, VIU.  We are pleased to have you join us in the fall and are delighted to be part of your journey in becoming a teacher.  Successful completion of either initial teacher education program available through VIU will lead to professional certification with the BC Ministry of Education Teacher Regulation Branch (TRB) and open a host of opportunities both inside and outside of a school classroom.

Getting Started

Note: Documents pertaining to these steps will be mailed directly to you upon acceptance of your offer of admission and payment of your tuition deposit.

Upon accepting your Offer of Admission via your VIU Student Record to the program there are few key steps you need take:

  1. Submission of a BC Ministry of Justice ‘Consent to Criminal Record Check’ form, in person, to the VIU Registration Centre (Bldg. 200)
  2. Please ensure the information in your VIU Student Record is accurate and reflects your current contact information. 
  3. Post Baccalaureate students only: Submission of a Student Teacher Profile form for field experience placement.

Registering for Your Courses

Course registration for initial teacher education programs is done via one registration (set) code and is program based.  All courses are offered at a set schedule.  You will not be permitted to select courses individually or create individualized schedules for teacher education courses.  In addition to campus based courses, you will be participating in all assigned Field Experience dates for your program.  Please consult the Field Experience Calendars for specific dates and times.  Generally speaking, on campus courses run Monday to Friday beginning no earlier than 8:30 am and finishing by 4:30 pm.

All course registration details will be sent to the email address listed in your VIU Student Record.  Thus, please ensure your contact information in the VIU Student Record is accurate andcurrent.
