They are turning over my contract for another term to teach Biol 067 - so I have that position for sure for January. I have also been offered a position teaching Chemistry with ABE in the Spring!

The school, Kinuso School, is a K-12 that recently had a major technological upgrade.  New computer labs, wireless connectivity and every class has a smartboard! Wendy Karpuik (Grad 2013)

I am delighted to fulfill my promise of keeping you informed about next steps for me since my graduation in January. I was very happy to accept an offer from the Campbell River SD72 for a 1.0 FTE position teaching French Immersion next year at École des Deux Mondes.  At the moment, it's a grade 2,3,4 split, which will be a challenge to say the least (I'm hoping it will resolve into a two-grade split one way or the other by fall).  The main thing, though, is that it's employment in my favourite grade level in one of my favourite languages of instruction. Yet again, please let me thank you all for the many ways you inspired and supported me through this process of finding my place as an educator. I will continue to keep you posted! Best regards..

Jean MacLeod le Cheminant (Grad 2013)

I wanted to share my good news with you - I accepted a 1.0 continuing position with NIDES as their K-2 curriculum integration teacher for the fine arts eCademy. I'm super excited about the position and the move. I got the job thanks to all I've learned through OLTD. We're already half way through and I'm blown away with how much I've learned...what an amazing experience it has been so far. My understanding and practice of teaching and learning has been transformed. I'm excited to be able to apply more of my learning to my new job!

Laura Mann (Grad 2010)

I got hired by my local district right after graduation and after working as a TTOC for a little while. I got a contract to teach at the Saturna Island Elementary School Grades K-8 until the end of the year.

\Schuyler Matthews (Grad 2013)

I hope you are doing well.  I meant to email you sooner and let you know the amazing news in regards to my teaching.  I am happy to say that I am currently working my second full time contract in SD 72, Campbell River and loving it! I started my first contact at the end of January, 2013 shortly after graduating from the post bacc program. The contract ended up being for 7 weeks in a grade 1/2 French Immersion class.  I am currently back in a grade 1/2 French Immersion class in another school till the end of the school year.  Thank you to the wonderful faculty at VIU and amazing section for helping prepare me for this amazing adventure.

Kala Murray (Bremner)(Grad 2013)

Thank you VIU for the preparation and training. It is second-to-none!

Sarah O'Shaunessay (Grad 2012)

I just wanted to update you on my journey to becoming a teacher.

Cody [Miller] is a TOC in the Sea to Sky SD#48 and North Vancouver SD#45 districts. I am proud to announce that I have recently signed a one year contract with Saint John's School in Vancouver. I am a Teacher Intern at their Junior School. I will be a teacher assistant (who will be booked by teachers block by block to help out, teach groups, or teach one on one) and a substitute teacher as needed in grades K-5. I will also run the after school program for K-3.

It is a an IB school that is the perfect match for me. I love their philosophies of teaching and the staff is amazing. It also meant a steady schedule (M-F) and a salary with all the benefits. I was lucky enough to be chosen out of hundreds of applicants to have an interview (only 10 were chosen) and then met with a board for my second interview (3 were chosen for this). They all voted and I was chosen, I felt like I won the lottery when I was called!

I am so happy to finally be a part of a school. Let my journey begin! I officially start in August but I have already been invited to attend professional development days.

Christina Smith (Grad 2012)

I just wanted to give you an update on my teaching status! I ended up getting a TOC position in February with the Cowichan Valley School District. But I know it will pay off in the end! I hope all is well with all the education staff at VIU! Hugs to you all! Take care! I will keep in touch!
